Exhibition and Presentation of the Illustrated Talk “ARMENIA IN OLD MAPS” In the Austrian National Library

 The Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Austria in November 26, 2015 organized the exhibition and presentation of the illustrated talk “Armenia in old maps” by London based Armenian cartographer and historian Dr. Rouben Galichian.
All the documents and maps quoting Armenia and presented in the lecture and exhibition are important cartographic documents, prepared by Greco-Roman, Christian, medieval and later European specialists, as well as Islamic and Assyrian geographic works. Austrian historians, cartographers, representatives of the Austrian scientific, academic and cultural circles, ambassadors, diplomats, and Armenian diaspora attended the event.
H.E. Dr. Arman Kirakossian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Austria, in his welcoming remarks touched upon the scientific credo of Dr. Galichian, and highlighted especially his recent devoted activity done in favour of his homeland. Thereinafter Dr. Petra Svatek, Assistant Professor in the Institute of History, University of Vienna, in her introductory remarks told about her own experience in discovering Armenian ethnonyms in ancient and old maps. After that Dr. Stefaan Missinne, head of the Austrian-Belgian Society and the Austria´s Representative of the International Map Collectors´ Society, took the floor. He presented his recent discovery of the name of Armenia on the oldest engraved globe of the World c. 1504 and the oldest American Birth Certificate c. 1507.
After Dr. Missinne’s talk, Dr. Rouben Galichian presented his cartographic research and answered the auditoria’s question. The event concluded the reception, given by the Armenian Embassy honouring the Austrian and Armenian scientists.
