Lecture on Armenology by Jasmine Dum-Tragut in the “Armenia” Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Vienna

 On March 18, 2016, the lecture by Dr. Prof. Jasmine Dum-Tragut, Head of the Chair of Armenian Studies of the Center of Eastern Christian Studies of the Salzburg University, took place in the “Armenia” Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Vienna. The lecture on the milestones of the development of the European and especially, Austrian Armenology embraced past, current and foreseen problems of this particular field of studies, as well as the activities of the Center and the Chair. The Lecturer specifically focused on her most recent research, the project entitled “Pochl’s Armenians” and introduced the newly discovered facts related to the Armenian prisoners of WWI and documents deposited in the Austrian State Archives. Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Vienna in association with the AGBU-Austria co-organized the event.
The lecture attended a significant number of representatives of the Austrian academic and scientific circles, heads and members of the Austrian Armenian community organizations.
In opening remarks H.E. Dr. Armen Kirakossian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Austria introduced Dr. Prof. Dum-Tragut, told about her significant contribution to the promotion of the Armenian studies worldwide and Austria in particular. He noted especially the devotion of Ms. Dum-Tragut, who fulfils difficult commitments as a head of academic unit, heads a number of students and researchers, who have intention to go deeper in Armenian studies. Dr. Kirakossian highlighted Austrian professor’s cooperation with the Armenian state institutions, especially with Yerevan State University, Armenian Academy of Sciences, State Archives of Armenia etc.
Aiming at appreciation of this pro-Armenian activity of Dr. Prof. Jasmine Dum-Tragut, Ambassador Kirakossian called upon representatives of the Armenian community of Austria to assist Austrian scientist through supporting her Armenian oriented initiatives and her Center for Armenian Studies, which is one of rare Armenian research institutions of the European countries.
