Events on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of Armenia's Independence in Vienna

A number of festive events on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Armenia's Independence took place in Vienna.

Festivities on this occasion have been launched with Holy Mass on September 20, delivered in St. Hripsime Armenian Apostolic Church. Pontifical delegate of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Central Europe and Scandinavia Master Tiran Petrosyan addressed attendees with patriarchal speech. Armenian Ambassador to Austria Dr. Arman Kirakossian, Armenian community attended the holy liturgy.

On 21 September, the Embassy of Armenia in Austria and the Permanent Representation of Armenia to the International organizations in Vienna hosted a Reception in the Embassy’s facilities in Vienna. Dozens of ambassadors and representatives of international organizations accredited to Austria, members of the Austrian Federal Parliament, representatives of political, social, cultural and scientific circles, as well as the Austrian-Armenian community, took part in the event.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Kirakossian congratulated attendees on the occasion of Independence Day and stated that, although since regaining its Independence Armenia faced many hardships, nevertheless it recorded a tangible progress in terms of building a viable state. Ambassador Kirakossian stressed that due to invaluable support of Austria and other friendly countries Armenian Government and people have managed reaching significant gains in the past quarter century. Ambassador noted that Armenia and Austria's friendly relations and political dialogue is at a highest level. In this context, Ambassador Kirakossian highlighted the sustenance of the Austrian Development Agency programs in improving effective performance of agriculture, public administration and other sectors of Armenia.

Ambassador Kirakossian referred to important international cooperation takes place in the framework of international organizations, especially OSCE, UN specialized agencies, other organizations, including the IAEA, UNODC, in CTBTO etc. The festive ceremony in Armenian diplomatic representation was accompanied by performance of jazz interpretations of Armenian melodies by Austrian Armenian musicians.

On September 25 another cheerful event with participation of renowned “Shoghakn” folk ensemble took place in Vienna. The concert was organized by the Armenian Embassy in Austria and the Executive Board of the Armenian Apostolic Church with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Armenia.

In his opening speech Armenian Ambassador to Austria Dr. Arman Kirakossian praised the “Shoghakn” ensemble for its art and concert activity, held in the history of independent Armenia, acclaiming its role in preserving and popularizing the gorgeous Armenian cultural heritage. The Ensemble performed Armenian ethnographic melodies from various parts of Armenia, among them through Komitas, Yekmalyan and other Armenian composers’ interpretation
