An event in Vienna dedicated to the 25th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between Armenia and Austria

On April 28 the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Austria in Porgy & Bess jazz club of Vienna organized a jazz concert titled "The Armenian Spirit“, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishming the diplomatic relations between Armenia and Austria organized ", whereas Karen Asatryan‘s jazz ensemble performed its jazz interpetations of the Armenian classical, folk and spiritual music.

The representatives of the Austrian governmental agencies, federal and municipal authorities, the Austrian organizations, cultural and public figures, heads of diplomatic missions, diplomats, heads of Austrian Armenian oganizations attended the event.

Armenian Ambassador to Austria Dr. Arman Kirakossian presented his welcoming remarks to the auditory. He spoke about the friendly relations between the two countries since the establishing of diplomatic relations and decades-long cooperation in various fields, that is in line with variety of events taking place this year in both countries. Expressing gratitude to the Armenian and foreign musicians and audience for the event,

Ambassador Kirakossian told the attendees about "The Armenian Spirit" project and the ensemble's art director, famous jazz musician and composer Karen Asatryan, as well as other musicians performing in Asatryan’s team. He emphasized that these musicians are the best delegates of Armenia and the Armenian people in different countries acting as a specific cultural bridge between different societies.

Thereafter Austria-based Karen Asatryan, the Iraqi-born singer Rita Movsissian, Uruguayan buzuki-player Juan Carlos Sungurlyan, other members of the ensemble performed masterpieces by Komitas, Sayat Nova, contemporary Armenian composers of jazz melodies, accompanied by virtuoso piano performance of Karen Asatryan and Rita Movsesian magic voice.


Prior to the concert, in the club‘s lobby, the opening of the Dragon-carpets exhibition by Armenian paintist Hrachya Vardanyan took place. The opening attended Austrian artists, critics and journalists. The exhibition will last until June, and then will move to another Austrian city - to Scheibs, where Hrachya Vardanyan currently lives and works under the Artists in Residence program of the Austrian Ministry of Culture.
