Official event in Vienna on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Armenia's Independence, the 25th anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishme

Official event in Vienna on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Armenia's Independence, the 25th anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Austria.

 

On September 29, the Armenian Embassy in Austria and the Permanent Representation of Vienna in International Organizations organized an official event on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of Armenia's Independence in Vienna the 25th anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces and the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Austria.
The event was hosted by Vienna Diplomatic Academy – the oldest diplomatic school in Europe.

Representatives of Austrian government, central and regional executive and legislative bodies, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Vienna, diplomats, military, public and cultural figures, heads of Austrian-Armenian community participated at the event.

The director of the Academy, Ambassador Emil Brix, opened the official part of the event with welcoming remarks. He told about activities carried out by his institution in the recent years for the preparation of diplomats and public servants, including those from Armenia.

Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Economy of Austria Mag. Bernadette Gierlinger in her speech touched upon the strengthening of trade and economic ties with Armenia and the efforts undertaken by the Austrian-Armenian intergovernmental commission aiming at expanding these ties.

Dr. Martin Ledolter, Managing Director of the Austrian Development Agency, presented projects implemented under the auspices of his Agency for the development of agricultural communities in Armenia, and expressed his gratitude to the Armenian Government for a reliable partnership.

Mag. Katharina Wieser, Director of the East-Europe-Caucasus section of the Federal Ministry of Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, touched upon the rich experience of cooperation with the Republic of Armenia in bilateral and multilateral dimensions over the past 25 years.

 

Dr. Irene Suchy, Music Editor of the Ö-1 Radio station of the Austrian state-owned ORF, presented the recently-launched “Nebenan” program, comprising more than 40 reportages about Armenia.

Armenian Ambassador to Austria, permanent representative of Armenia in Vienna Dr. Arman Kirakossian concluded the official ceremony and congratulated the auditory on this triple occasion and presented the achievements of Armenia since regaining its Independence, as well as practical steps of the RA Government to ensure economic growth, the most important political and social processes taking place in the country.

Ambassador Kirakossian touched upon the issues of strengthening the Armed Forces of Armenia, which is the most important player in ensuring the security and peace of the peoples of Armenia and Artsakh, and the ongoing positive processes in the Armenian army. Thereinafter the Armenian Ambassador spoke about the multilateral historical ties between the Armenian and Austrian peoples, about diversification and institutionalization of the Armenian-Austrian relations since the Habsburg dynasty gave refuge to Armenian Mkhitarists monks until the establishment of diplomatic relations. Mr. Ambassador thanked the Austrian government for the productive cooperation between the two countries in the course of 3 decades. He expressed his gratitude to the people of Austria for helping the Armenian people to eliminate the consequences of the Spitak earthquake, and the consequences of the economic crisis immanent at the early period of Armenia's independence.

At the end of his speech Dr. Kirakossian drew attention of the auditory towards a book published by the Embassy, consisting of articles by Austrian and Armenian authors on the various topics relevant to the Armenian-Austrian bilateral relations.

After the official part two renowned Armenian artists - Nare Arghamanyan (piano) and Stella Grigoryan (vocal), performed masterpieces of Armenian and Austrian composers. The music recital followed by Reception on behalf of the Embassy of Armenia in Austria and the permanent representation to the international organizations in Vienna.
