Event dedicated to 30th anniversary of Artsakh movement in Vienna

On March 12, the Austrian Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for the Elimination of Consequences of War in association with the Armenian-Austrian Committee for Justice and Democracy and with support of the Armenian Embassy in Austria, organized a public lecture by Armenian- American writer and Human Rights Attorney Mrs. Anna Astvatsaturian-Turcotte. The event took place in the festive hall of the old building of the Vienna City Hall.
Armenian Ambassador to Austria Dr. Arman Kirakossian, Austrian public figures, intellectuals, representatives of Austrian-Armenian community, spiritual fathers and students of Vienna universities participated at the event. Director of the Vienna Office for the Elimination of the Consequences of War, Mr. Christoph Benedikter delivered to the auditory the opening remarks.
Then Mrs. Anna Astvatsaturian-Turcotte, a child who witnessed the massacres in the Armenian-populated towns of Soviet Azerbaijan in the late 80s of the XX century, briefly touched upon her childhood memoirs described in her book “Nowhere, a Story of Exile”, and told about her family’s full of loses fleeing way from Baku first to Armenia and then to the USA.

Then the speakers discussed the history and the rout causes of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, touched upon the massacres took place in Azerbaijani cities of Sumgait, Baku and Kirovabad. They touched upon the struggle of Artsakh Armenians since 1988 for their right to self-determination and the anti-Armenian policy of the Azerbaijani authorities and the large-scale war against the Armenians of Artsakh.

The representative of the Boltzmann Institute, Christoph Benedikter, in his turn, presented his impressions of his work on the book "Brennpunkt Berg Karabach" and his own view on the conflict resolution.

At the conclusion of the event Anna Astvatsaturian-Turcotte answered numerous questions of the audience.
