Mr. Chairperson,

At the outset we would like to congratulate you on your election and thank the outgoing Chair and other members of the Bureau for their leadership of the Programme and Budget Committee.

We would also like to use this opportunity to extend our support to the Director General of UNIDO Gerd Müller for his upcoming re-election at the Riyadh General Conference in November this year.

Mr. Chairperson, We thank Director General Gerd Müller for the 2024 annual report and acknowledge the tangible results of UNIDO as reflected therein.

The Republic of Armenia reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and acknowledges the role of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in supporting member states in achieving inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

While working towards the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developing countries face persistent and multidimensional challenges. These include limited access to finance, technological gaps, fragile infrastructure, climate vulnerabilities and the need for stronger institutional capacities. Strengthened cooperation, technical assistance, expertise sharing, and capacitybuilding are critical tools for enabling developing countries to build resilient industries, foster innovation, and transition to low-carbon and inclusive economies.

The Republic of Armenia advocates for enhanced partnerships and resource mobilization to ensure that no country is left behind in the pursuit of sustainable development. We commend UNIDO for its strategic guidance and encourage continued efforts to ensure that its support reflects the realities on the ground and priorities of developing countries.

Mr. Chairperson,

The Republic of Armenia recognizes the essential role of UNIDO’s field offices in maintaining close cooperation with Member States and other stakeholders. The field network is crucial for ensuring effective implementation of UNIDO’s programs and for strengthening its contributions to the United Nations development system. In light of the ongoing liquidity crisis facing the UN, Armenia stresses that the continued operation of these field offices must be prioritized to ensure its support for developing countries and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Republic of Armenia welcomes the increase of approved projects contributing to gender equality and advancing the empowerment of women, recognizing the vital role of women in sustainable industrial development.

Mr. Chairperson,

Given UNIDO's critical role in promoting sustainable industrial development and environmental protection, and in light of Armenia’s Presidency of COP17 on Biodiversity, Armenia is committed to advancing the integration of biodiversity conservation into industrial practices. We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that biodiversity conservation and industrial development are harmoniously integrated for a sustainable future.

I thank you.
