Solemn reception in Vienna marking the 34th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia

02 October, 2025

On October 2, a reception marking the 34th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia was held in the ceremonial hall of the renowned Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia Andranik Hovhannisyan delivered opening remarks. Hannah Liko, Director General for Political Affairs at the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, also delivered a speech.

In his speech, Ambassador Hovhannisyan emphasized that ever since its independence, Armenia has enjoyed robust and thriving partnership with Austria, including within the framework of Armenia-European Union dynamic partnership.

He highlighted that Armenia is a staunch supporter of multilateralism and, guided by this principle, contributes to the work of the United Nations agencies and international organizations based in Vienna. As a token of its firm commitment to multilateralism, next year Armenia hosts two landmark events – the European Political Community Summit and the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.

Referring to the cooperation within the framework of the OSCE, Ambassador Hovhannisyan expressed hope that in the 50th anniversary year of the Helsinki Final Act, the pursuit of peace can once again unite countries, just as it did half a century ago.

In his speech, Ambassador referred to the initialed Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Joint Statement on Peace signed by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States in Washington D.C. in August this year, emphasizing their importance in establishing peace and fostering good-neighborly relations in the region.

The event was attended by representatives of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs and other government institutions, members of the legislative bodies, ambassadors, permanent representatives and diplomats accredited in Vienna, representatives of international organizations, members of the Austrian-Armenian community, journalists, as well as public, cultural and academic figures.
