Statement by the Delegation of Armenia at the 21st Session of the General Conference of the Industrial Development Organization

26 November, 2025

Mr. President,

At the outset, Armenia warmly thanks the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous hospitality during the 21st session of the General Conference of UNIDO and for elevating it to Global Industrial Summit.

We support the Riyadh Declaration, which reflects shared commitment to advancing Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development. Armenia also extends its sincere congratulations to Director General Dr. Gerd Müller on his reappointment.

We commend the outcomes of the 41st session of the Programme and Budget Committee, the 53rd session of the Industrial Development Board, and the development of the Medium-Term Programme Framework for 2026–2029.

Mr. President,

Armenia’s industrial policy prioritizes strengthening export-oriented sectors, advancing technologically sophisticated production, improving resource efficiency, promoting low-carbon industrial development, and supporting inclusive growth through investment in human capital and job creation. Particular attention is given to the textile industry, a key export sector, where we closely cooperate with UNIDO.

Together with the UNIDO, Armenia has strengthened its light industry, optimized production potential, and enhanced the international visibility of its textile sector. This cooperation has modernized production, facilitated access to external markets, attracted investment for technical upgrading, and supported the recovery of production volumes, thereby reinforcing Armenia’s position in global markets.

Mr. President,

Armenia attaches high importance to the circular economy. The Government of Armenia is committed to a transition toward a green, sustainable, and circular economy, as reflected in the 2021–2026 Government Programme and ongoing sectoral reforms. Challenges remain, including financing, access to innovative technologies, and the need for a comprehensive framework. In this regard, Armenia highlights the draft resolution that will be presented at the Plenary tomorrow, demonstrating the importance of advancing the circular economy.

UNIDO’s technical expertise is essential in addressing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. As the host of the upcoming COP17 on Biodiversity, Armenia looks forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to harmonize biodiversity conservation with sustainable industrial development.

Mr. President,

Armenia, as a staunch advocate of connectivity and regional cooperation, consistently contributes to strengthening the industrial linkages, enhancing trade and transport networks, and supporting integration into regional and global value chains.

In conclusion, I would like to reaffirm our support to UNIDO’s technical mandate aimed at advancing inclusive and sustainable industrial development which plays a vital role in supporting Member States to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and implementing the 2030 Agenda.

I thank you.
