Mr Chair,

Let me begin by congratulating Mexico on assuming the chairmanship of the Legal Subcommittee.  We would like to assure you of our full support and ongoing constructive cooperation.

Armenia highly values the unique mandate of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its Subcommittees which provide platforms dedicated exclusively to fostering international cooperation in the peaceful uses of outer space and strengthening its international legal regime.

We recognize the importance of outer space being used solely for peaceful purposes and that all space activities must be conducted in conformity with international law. All States should bear international responsibility for their national space activities. In this regard we emphasize the commitment set forth in the Pact of the Future to strengthen international frameworks to prevent the weaponization of outer space and ensure equitable access to its benefits.

Armenia, as a country newly engaged in the development of its own space capabilities, is committed to advancing principles for safe, sustainable, transparent and reasonable space exploration and to expanding boundaries of human knowledge and technological capacity in outer space.

Armenia underscores the importance of promoting support for developing countries through capacity-building and access to space technologies. It is essential that the governance of space resources ensures equitable access for all States, guaranteeing the inclusion of the countries with emerging or limited space capabilities

We emphasize the value of the development of national space capabilities as an essential component of our sustainable development and technological progress including by improving the understanding of environmental and climate challenges and supporting effective environmental protection strategies.

Stressing the vital importance of strict adherence to, effective implementation and further development of international space law including applicable treaties, legal principles and norms that protect the outer space, we reaffirm that all activities in outer space shall be anchored in the principle of its peaceful use and conducted for the collective benefit of all countries and common good of humankind as a whole.

Thank you.
