At the regular session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which commenced on March 3, 2025, H.E. Mr. Andranik Hovhannisyan, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the International Organisations in Vienna, was elected Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors.

During the session, Ambassador Andranik Hovhannisyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and its obligations under international conventions. He highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure the safe operation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, collaboration with the IAEA and partner countries, and Armenia’s perspectives on the IAEA’s 2026-2029 Nuclear Safety Plan. He also addressed other key issues within the Agency’s mandate.

The Board of Governors is one of the two main policy-making and governing bodies of the IAEA, alongside the annual General Conference of IAEA Member States. Armenia was elected to the 35-member Board at the 67th session of the IAEA General Conference on September 28, 2023.
