Permanent Mission of Armenia organized a side event in the margins of the 68th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs

On 11 March, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Armenia to the International Organizations in Vienna with the sponsorship of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), organized a side event within the framework of the 68th session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.

The side event was entitled “Advancing a Multisectoral Approaches in Addressing the World Drug Problem: The Impact of Well-Coordinated National Strategies.” Mr. Armen Ghazaryan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia delivered the key note speach outlining the key principles, priorities, and components of Armenia’s newly developed national drug control strategy. He emphasized the importance of early prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and reintegration alongside efforts to combat drug use and trafficking.

H.E. Mr. Andranik Hovhannisyan, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Armenia delivered opening remarks. The side event featured two speakers - Ms. Tatyana Jehl, Drug Policy Officer from Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch, and Mr. Fabian Lashi, Data Analyst of the Research and Trend Analysis Branch of the UNODC. They presented global and regional trends and data, the role of multi-sectoral strategies, and highlighted the important features of the new strategy developed by Armenia. Mr. Jeremy Milsom, Head of the UNODC Regional Section for Europe, West and Central Asia moderated the discussion.
