Statement by the Delegation of the Republic of Armenia at the fifty-second session of the Industrial Development Board of the UN Industrial Development Organization

Thank you, Madam President,

At the outset we would like to congratulate you, Ambassador, upon your election as the President of the fifty-second Industrial Development Board as well as other elected members of the Bureau and to assure you of our support and cooperation.

We would also like to express our appreciation to the outgoing IDB President, Ambassador Mofadal Elnour of Sudan, as well as to other outgoing Bureau members for their leadership in steering the work of the Bureau.

Madam President,

Armenia thanks Director General Gerd Müller for the 2023 annual report and acknowledges the efforts exerted and achievements registered by UNIDO as reflected therein. We reiterate our support to Director General’s reform agenda under the motto “Progress by Innovation”.

Mr. President,

We appreciate UNIDO’s efforts to promote innovative, inclusive, and sustainable industrialization, and to support states in their green transition, the advancement of carbon-neutral energy, improvement of energy efficiency, and digital transformation by integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions into industrial policies.

We would like to specifically highlight UNIDO’s role in addressing global climate change and biodiversity challenges. The UNIDO’s initiatives in green hydrogen development hold immense potential for decarbonizing industries, and for fostering a cleaner sustainable energy. Similarly, its programs supporting circular economy are can be vital in reducing resource exploitation, minimizing waste, and enhancing biodiversity preservation.

Moreover, UNIDO’s advocacy for a just energy transition ensures that vulnerable communities are not left behind as the global economy shifts towards renewable and sustainable energy systems. Likewise, its efforts in industrial decarbonization can largely contribute to achieving the global climate goals as outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As the host country of COP17 on biodiversity, Armenia looks forward to deepening collaboration with UNIDO based on this unique expertise, knowledge and comparative advantages.

Madam President,

As we mark today the International Day for the elimination of violence against Women and the launch of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, we would like to take this opportunity to reiterate Armenia’s firm commitment to the Women empowerment agenda both domestically and internationally. Armenia as a member of the Group of Friends for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women welcomes the efforts of UNIDO to mainstream the gender equality in all its projects and programmes.
