Statement by H.E. Mr Andranik Hovhannsiyan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia, delivered at the fifty-third session of the Industrial Development Board under agenda item 3: Annual Report of the Director General for 2024

Mr. President,

At the outset we congratulate you upon your election as the President of the fifty-third Industrial Development Board as well as other elected members of the Bureau and assure you of our support and cooperation.

We also express our gratitude to the outgoing President, Ambassador Gabriela Sellner, as well as to other outgoing Bureau members for their leadership.

We would also like to reiterate our support to the remarkable efforts of Director General Gerd Muller and wish him and UNIDO Secretariat all the success in the years ahead.

Mr. President,

We thank Director General Gerd Müller for the presentation of the 2024 Annual Report and commend the Organization for the concrete results achieved throughout the reporting period.

The Republic of Armenia reaffirms its commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and recognizes UNIDO’s key role in advancing inclusive and sustainable industrialization. In today’s challenging global environment, we stress the importance of strengthened multilateral cooperation to address barriers faced by developing countries, particularly in access to finance, technology, and sustainable infrastructure.

Mr. President,

Armenia recognizes the importance of UNIDO’s field presence to the effective implementation of its mandate. The field network is crucial for ensuring effective implementation of UNIDO’s programs and for strengthening its contributions to the United Nations development system. In this regard Armenia stresses that the continued operation of these field offices must be upheld to ensure its support for developing countries and the achievement of the SDGs.

We welcome UNIDO’s enhanced focus on cross-cutting priorities, including women and youth empowerment, and recognize in this regard the vital role of women in sustainable industrial development.

As host country of the upcoming COP17 on Biodiversity, Armenia looks forward to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure that biodiversity conservation and industrial development are harmoniously integrated for a sustainable future.

Finally, we express our appreciation for the efforts of Saudi Arabia in organizing the General Conference and look forward to the fruitful deliberations and outcome.
