Concert dedicated to the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Austria and the 120th anniversary of Aram Khachaturian

01 February, 2023

On February 1, at the initiative of the Armenian Embassy in Vienna, a concert dedicated to the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Austria and the 120th anniversary of world-famous Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian was held.

The program of the concert included popular pieces from the greatest works of Aram Khachaturian, which were performed by famous musicians - pianist Nare Arghamanyan, mezzo-soprano Stella Grigoryan, flutist James Strauss and violinist Yuri Revich. A number of works of Austrian composers were also played during the concert.

At the beginning of the event, Armen Papikyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Austria, delivered opening remarks. In his speech, the ambassador referred to the long-standing Armenian-Austrian friendship, highly appreciating the continuous development of the cooperation between Armenia and Austria in the political, economic and cultural fields over the past 3 decades of diplomatic relations. Speaking about Aram Khachaturian's musical greatness and world fame, Ambassador Papikyan noted that Khachaturian made a huge contribution to the development of modern music art, occupying his unique place in the treasury of world classical music.

In his speech, the ambassador made a special reference to the humanitarian crisis created in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) as a result of Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, stressing the importance of the international community taking active steps to prevent Azerbaijan's policy of subjecting Artsakh to ethnic cleansing.

The event was attended by representatives of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, other state institutions, many ambassadors accredited in Vienna, representatives of the Austrian Armenian community, journalists, artists, and academia.
