Screening of "Aurora's Sunrise" in Vienna

30 November, 2023

On November 30, at the initiative of the Embassy of Armenia in Austria and in collaboration with the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies and the Filmarchiv Austria, the film "Aurora's Sunrise" took the stage at the METRO Kinokulturhaus in Vienna. The film presents the odyssey of the life of Aurora Mardiganyan, a survivor of the Armenian Genocide.

The event, organized for the second consecutive year in collaboration between the Embassy of Armenia and the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute, was once again dedicated to the International Genocide Prevention Day. This year, the screening of the film was held under the honorary patronage of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria.

Welcoming remarks were delivered on behalf of H.E. Armen Papikyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Austria, by Dr. Jochen Böhler, Director of the Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies, and by Mourad Mahidi, Deputy Head of Department for Human Rights of the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria.

Following the screening, a discussion took place with the participation of the film's director, Inna Sahakyan.

"Aurora's Sunrise" was created with the scientific support of the Zoryan Institute and is based on the Armenian Genocide Oral History Collection of the Zoryan Institute. The production company is Bars Media, with co-producers Gebrueder Beetz Filmproduktion (Germany) and Artbox Laisvalaikio Klubas (Lithuania).
