Embassy of Armenia Hosted Launch of Vahan Teryan’s Translation of Arthur Schnitzler’s Novella

12 May, 2025

On May 12, the Embassy of Armenia in Austria hosted a special event to launch the publication of the Armenian translation of Austrian author Arthur Schnitzler’s novella “Frau Berta Garlan” by renowned Armenian poet Vahan Teryan. The event marked the 140th anniversary of Teryan’s birth. Originally translated by Teryan in 1912, the work has now been republished in 2025 as a bilingual Armenian-German edition.

Ambassador Andranik Hovhannisyan delivered the opening remarks. Speeches were made by Member of the National Assembly of Armenia and the Chair of the Armenia-Austria parliamentary friendship group, Shirak Torosyan, who initiated and sponsored the publication, as well as by Vahagn Sargsyan, Director of “Hayastan” Publishing House and editor of the volume. Rev. Fr. Andreas Isakhanyan, spiritual pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Community in Austria, also addressed the audience.

The program included recitations of Vahan Teryan’s poetry and musical performances inspired by his works, in the honor of one of Armenia’s most cherished literary figures.
